It has become increasingly common for fighters and former MMA fighters to venture into the boxing ring. Among many differences and similarities between each case, one factor stands out among practically all of them: the financial issue. Dan Hardy, who faces Diego Sanchez in an exhibition fight in the noble art in July, he assured that this was what weighed most when he agreed to interrupt his retirement to return to action.

Without fighting since 2012, Dan Hardy puts on the gloves again, this time 16 ounces, to face Diego Sanchez on July 2nd. The former UFC welterweight stated, in an interview with the North American website “MMAFighting”, that the boxing exhibition duel was a great financial compromise between the proposals to fight MMA and bare-knuckle boxing.

“The honest truth is that it was a good compromise financially, because what they were offering for MMA was cringeworthy and what they were offering for bare knuckle boxing was three times what they were offering for exhibition boxing. I could face him in MMA and we would have to fight four or five times to earn the same money, or I could face him without gloves and do a lot of damage to him,” he said.

Now 39 years old, Dan Hardy was a UFC athlete between 2008 and 2012, stepping into the Octagon ten times during that period. The Brit guarantees that in the duel against Diego Sanchez you will receive a value greater than the sum of all your Ultimate salaries.

“You can add up all my UFC payments and I’ll still earn more than that,” he assured.

Dan Hardy and Diego Sanchez face each other on the preliminary card of the duel between former world boxing champions Marco Antonio Barrera and Ricky Hatton, in Manchester, England.
