One of the most winning careers in the history of the heavyweights of the noble art came to an end last Saturday (23). After knocking out Dillian Whyte in the sixth round, in a packed Wembley, the multi-time world champion Tyson Fury announced his retirement from professional boxing. The Brit leaves the sport with a record of 32 victories, 23 of which were by knockout, one draw and no defeats.

The retirement announcement was made by Tyson Fury right after the win over Whyte. The British heavyweight stated that he had already chosen to hang up his gloves even before his trilogy victory against Deontay Wilder, in October 2021, but decided to accept the fight against Dillian Whyte, at Wembley, to say goodbye to the fans fighting at home.

“Before the trilogy against Deontay Wilder, I was at home in Vegas and I told my wife Paris that this would be my last fight. I just don't want to fight anymore. She was happy and agreed. After the fight I was in the shower and said that it was definitely the last fight. I was happy with the decision but I got a call from Frank Warren saying we could have a fight at home at Wembley. So I told my wife I needed to do this one more time. It was a difficult decision because I was happily retired. I came back to this huge fight at home. It was amazing. There was no better outcome. It's been years living a fairy tale. It was absolutely more than I dreamed of as a child and as an adult. I won all the belts I could win. There's nothing more I can do. I won all the belts at stake. If it were a computer game, it would definitely be zero,” said the champion.

However, anyone who thinks that the retirement of Tyson Fury prevent the long-awaited duel against the UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou. The Brit assured that he is still interested in holding exhibition fights and included the Cameroonian in his list of challenges, making himself available to duel under special rules.

“I’m not going to rule out exhibition fights, of course. Give me some of that Floyd Mayweather money. I want to have fun. I'm great at entertaining. Francis Ngannou was here today, he's on my list for an exhibition fight. Whatever he wants, in a cage, in the boxing ring, with boxing or UFC gloves, we can make it happen. I think everyone wants to see that. I'm a monster, so it will be a clash of the titans, for sure”, assured Fury.
