A decisive fight was added to UFC 167, an event that marks twenty years of the main MMA organization on the planet. Ultimate management confirmed the fight between Allistair Overeem and Frank mir, two of the main names in the heavyweight category, for fight night. Both athletes lost their last fights and are in a risk position, given the UFC's recent cut policy.

Francisco Santos Miranda III, or Frank mir, is a former heavyweight belt holder and has a record of 16 wins and 8 losses. Mir lost his last three fights, to Junior dos Santos, Daniel Cormier and, most recently, Josh Barnett. Just like his opponent, Allistair Overeem, former DREAM and Strikeforce champion, is going through a difficult moment in Ultimate, after debuting with a victory over Brock Lesnar. The Dutchman lost his last two clashes, to Antônio “Pezão” and Travis Browne.
