The Brazilian duel at Bellator 278, between Weber Almeida and Fabricio Franco had a curious and anticlimactic ending to say the least. In the 3rd minute of the first round, Weber connected with a powerful kick to Fabricio's thigh, who immediately launched a supposedly illegal blow, feeling a lot of pain. During the recovery time granted to the gaucho, however, the replay of the move made it clear that the kick was connected to the inner part of the thigh, without contact with the genital region, therefore characterizing a legal blow.

Even though the referee warned him that the blow had been interpreted as legal, Fabricio Franco refused to return, citing a lot of pain, and Weber Almeida won by technical knockout.
Weber Almeida is recovering from the defeat he suffered against Johnny Soto, in May 2021, and now has four wins and just one setback in the Bellator cage.
On the other hand, Fabricio Franco debuted with a defeat in the organization and now has two consecutive setbacks in his career.
