Pettis submits Ben Henderson, wins lightweight belt and challenges José Aldo

The UFC's lightweight division (up to 70 kg.) has a new champion. The North American Anthony Pettis finished Ben henderson with a beautiful armbar and took his rival's belt. The fight was the main attraction of UFC 164, an event that took place on Saturday night (31), in Milwaukee, in the United States. Still in the octagon, Pettis asked to face the Brazilian José Aldo, champion of the featherweight category (up to 66 kg.)

The fight

As soon as the combat began, Ben henderson He didn't want to risk fighting on his feet in front of Pettis and closed the distance. In the clinch, he landed a few strikes, but was unable to take the fight to the ground. After managing to free himself from his rival, Anthony began to loosen up his game. He delivered a sequence of three kicks to the ribs that punished his rival.

Still in the octagon, Pettis praised his rival, stated that a new fight could happen, but asked Joe Silva – UFC matchmaker, responsible for scheduling the fights – to challenge the Brazilian José Aldo: “Joe Silva, please, me and José Aldo We have scores to settle”, said the now champion.

Barnett makes UFC debut with victory over Mir

In the second most important fight of the night, Josh Barnett returned to the UFC on the right foot. Before Frank mir, the veteran heavyweight went all out on his opponent at the beginning of the fight. He closed the distance, sought the clinch and threw several blows. Mir still tried to respond with striking, but Barnett's force was greater. After controlling his rival's neck, Josh landed a fair knee that took Frank to the ground, already knocked out.
