It was difficult, it was sweaty, but Mackenzie dern returned to the path of victories in UFC 273. On the card held on Saturday night (09), the Brazilian had a very tough fight against the North American Tecia torres, won the judges' split decision and confirmed his position in the top-5 of the strawweight division (up to 52,1kg). The show was held at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, in Jacksonville, Florida (USA).
Defeated by Marina Rodriguez In October, Mackenzie managed to recover in the strawweight division and continues with a good record of five wins in his last six fights. The Brazilian athlete now has a record of 12 triumphs and two setbacks in professional MMA.
The North American Tecia torres, sees his dream of getting closer to the top-5 of the division led by Rose namajunas. Coming from three consecutive victories, the strawweight was slowed down and now has 13 victories and six setbacks in the sport.

Mackenzie started by trying to blitz Tecia, who responded with a right hand. The American repeated the counterattack on two more occasions before the first minute. Mackenzie's strategy was clear: go down and take Torres down, but the Brazilian started having difficulty executing her mission.
Mackenzie managed to take Tecia into the clinch, but the American reversed and took control of the position. The two athletes return to the center of the cage. Torres uses knee kicks to try to keep Mackenzie away. The Brazilian fighter was more aggressive, however, she had difficulty finding the timing of her blows. Tecia landed a low kick, but received a heavy counterattack that shook her.
In the second half, Mackenzie maintained his aggression, however, landing more blows. In the clinch with the North American, Dern tried an armbar with her rival standing, Torres defended herself bravely, while the Brazilian continued to insist. Torres was breathing heavily, due to the high level of effort needed to escape the submission attempt. However, the danger was not yet over.
The two athletes remained on the ground: Mackenzie trying to adjust a new submission and Tecia trying to escape the dangers of the jiu-jitsu world champion. Dern changed his goal and started attacking Torres' feet. The second round ended and Tecia managed to survive the 'Dern Storm'.
At the beginning of the third round, Mackenzie tried to shorten the fight and almost got kicked by Tecia. The first two minutes of the last stage were calmer, perhaps due to the intense pace at the end of the second round. Dern tries to take down, catches Tecia's leg and gets kicked in the face, which makes her fall in a sitting position. The Tupiniquim athlete showed her (slight) improvement in striking but made it clear that, without her jiu-jitsu, she would be unlikely to win the duel.
Tecia blocked a kick received at the waist line, which made Mackenzie fall into a sitting position again. Dern still tried to put pressure on Tecia, managed a takedown in the final seconds, but there wasn't enough time for any more attacks.

The confrontation that opened the main card of the UFC 273, at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, in Jacksonville, Florida (USA) was between veterans Vinc Pichell and Mark madsen. The two fighters delivered an exciting confrontation in the first half, with many exchanges of blows, takedown attempts and even some provocations. However, in the last part, the audience booed at a low intensity, especially after Madsen dominated practically the entire round in the ground fight.
In the end, in the unanimous decision of the judges, victory for Mark madsen, who remains undefeated in professional MMA with 11 victories. At 39 years old, Vinc Pichell sees his streak of three positive results being broken and now has 14 triumphs and three setbacks in the sport.
