In the midst of a cycle of surprises, which reached its peak in the recent defeat of Anderson Silva for Chris Weidman, Ultimate invested in the idea for promoting UFC 167 – an event that also marks its 20th anniversary. In the poster, released this Friday (23), the organization draws attention to the “power to shock the world” of John hendricks, who challenges the welterweight champion Georges St Pierre In the event.
With great knockout power, the North American is considered by many as one of the biggest threats to the belt of the now longest-lived Ultimate champion. Hendricks, who like GSP has his base in wrestling, has the arduous task of defending himself from the Canadian's takedown game and relies on the strength of his fists, with which he has already taken eight opponents to the canvas in his career.
Coincidentally, Georges St Pierre he was in the fight that is considered the biggest upset in the history of Ultimate – even bigger than Spider's defeat to Weidman. In 2007, at UFC 69, the Canadian was knocked out in the first round by Matt Serra, who won the right to fight for the title after winning the The Ultimate Fighter 4. St. Pierre recovered, and a year after the fight, already as interim champion, he unified the belt by returning the knockout over Serra in the rematch between the two.
