Confident, Gilbert Durinho reveals 'secret weapons' to defeat Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273

Willing to get a new chance at the UFC welterweight title (up to 77kg), Gilbert Durinho has the mission to put an end to the 'hype' of Khamzat Shimaev No. UFC 273, an event scheduled to take place on April 9th. In an interview with the podcast 'French Exchange', Durinho revealed that he works wrestling with two coaches to adjust the quality in response to Chimaev's strong game.

“I had to hire two very tough Russian fighters, who are helping me daily. They asked to keep their names a secret, and I had (to agree) because they are showing me a lot of things in my game. I've always liked simple takedowns, but the Russians have unique grips. You think they are super strong, but they are not. They are strong, but have technique with hips, waist and control. They are ahead of the United States (in this aspect). I learned a lot at this camp. And you can't just learn defense, you also have to attack to feel and develop your defensive skills”, detailed Durinho.

Gilbert also spoke about Chimaev's qualities and considers the Swede to be promising, but says that the UFC has promoted his opponent as a 'bogeyman'.

“Dana White and the UFC are promoting this kid a lot. They say, 'This kid is a killer and nobody wants to fight him.' And that helps a lot. But I'm not taking anything away from the kid, I think he's really good and very promising. I think he’s tough,” he concluded.

The favorite of the Brazilian fans, Gilbert has not performed since the confrontation against Stephen Thompson, in July 2021. On that occasion, the Niteroi native managed to nullify his opponent's excellent striking and left the octagon with a positive result in the unanimous decision of the judges.
