In 2017, the fighter was prevented from competing by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) due to the use of steroids. At the time, the athlete had recently signed a contract with Ultimate, but was only able to debut in 2020.

A pupil of the Brazilian fans, Carlos debuted in Ultimate in July 2020, when he suffered a controversial defeat to Sergey Spivak. Afterwards, the Bahian competed in four more fights, winning on three occasions. As the USADA punishment is retroactive to the period in which the material was collected, Carlos, 27 years old, can return to active duty on April 16, 2023.
