Former lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg), Rafael dos Anjos returned to the division where he was once king after an unsuccessful move to the welterweight category (up to 77,1kg). With the morale of someone who has already held the belt, the Rio fighter only needed a points victory over Paul felder to take sixth place in the standings.

Without stepping into the octagon since November 2020, Dos Anjos should be able to get a spot in the top-5 of the category, in case of a victory over Moicano. With Michael chandler e Dustin poirier recently defeated by the champion charles do brox and the imminence of a new scheduling of the duel between Islam makhachev e Beneil Dariush, nothing prevents the fighter from Rio from being just one fight away from a new title fight, if he emerges victorious in the UFC 272.

Renato Moicano perhaps he is the only fighter who will enter the Octagon at the T-Mobile Arena 'relaxed' UFC 272. The Brasília fighter agreed to replace the prospect Raphael Fiziev, who tested positive for Covid-19 with just under a week to go before the event. The mission will not be easy: face the former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.

A former member of the featherweight elite (up to 65,7kg), Moicano decided to move up a category after two consecutive defeats, to José Aldo e Korean zombie. In the new division, the Brazilian has been standing out: in four fights, he suffered only one defeat, precisely to Raphael Fiziev, the opponent he is replacing in the UFC 272.

In case of defeat to Dos Anjos, the stumble will be considered 'normal'. Moicano accepted the fight about a week in advance and, on top of that, he fought just over 20 days ago against Alexander Hernandez, UFC 271. In case of victory, it won't be a surprise if Renato takes his opponent's place in sixth place in the standings and becomes 'noticed' by the division's elite.

Edson Barboza

After migrating to the featherweight division (up to 65,7kg) in 2020 seeking new opportunities in his career, Edson Barboza will have one of his last chances to show that he can still be Ultimate champion. In four appearances in the new weight range, the Brazilian achieved two wins and two defeats and a new positive result, the second in a row, would be a big 'bucket of cold water' for the Brazilian athlete's future aspirations.

After debuting in the featherweight division with a defeat to Dan Ige, the good performance left fans excited about Edson's future in the new weight range. The triumphs over mawan amirkhani e Shane burgos expectations increased, but the setback for the prospect Giga Chikadze once again frustrated the Brazilian athlete. A new negative result, this time for the undefeated prospect Bryce mitchell, the carioca could move into the 'mid-table' and, even in tenth place in the rankings, definitively move him away from the category's elite.

Among the Brazilian athletes who will be in action in the UFC 272, Alex Cowboy This is what is going through the most delicate moment within the organization. Coming from three consecutive defeats, the Tupiniquim fighter will be responsible for welcoming Kevin holland in the up to 77,1kg division. In the event of a new setback, the Rio native's future in the company will become a big question mark.

Hired by Ultimate in 2015, Alex quickly stood out in the company with good victories and fights that were almost always exciting. However, from 2018 onwards, the Brazilian entered a complicated phase in his professional and personal life and since then, he has only won twice and suffered six defeats. His last positive result was in July 2020, when he defeated Peter sobotta by points. A new negative result for Cowboy in the UFC 272, could cause the end of your time at the company.

Marina Rodriguez

Even 'hidden' on the preliminary card, the duel between the Brazilian Marina Rodriguez and the chinese yan xiaonan will bring the winner of a strawweight belt fight (up to 52,2kg) closer. The two athletes occupy, respectively, positions three and four in the category ranking and focus their attention on the champion Rose namajunas.

Hired in 2018 after participating in the reality show 'Contender Series', the gaúcha from Bagé went on an almost 'silent' walk from the general public. Since her debut in the organization, the Brazilian has won five wins, one defeat and one draw in the under-52,2kg division. Fueled by three consecutive victories, the Tupiniquim athlete should be at least one more fight away from fighting for the belt, if she beats Xiaonan next Saturday (05).
