Bellator welterweight champion (up to 77 kg) and undefeated in professional MMA with 26 victories, Ukrainian Yaroslav Amosov guaranteed that he will stay in Ukraine to help defend the country against the Russian military invasion, which began last week. Like many civilians, the champion was willing to take up arms to fight for his nation during the conflict that has killed hundreds of people and sent thousands more crossing borders in search of safety.

"Greetings. Many people will probably think that I ran away, that I'm hiding or something like that, but that's not true. I took my family to a safety zone. Now I'm back and I'm going to defend this country the best way I can, with what I can. I love our country. Russia came to our house and started a war here. Many people are dying – innocent people, women and children. We have to defend this country and we will do it, friends. We will succeed because the truth is on our side. I would like to talk to everyone who follows me from Russia. What is shown to you on television is not true. If I were you, I wouldn't even watch the news. We are in a real war. I can't understand people who don't believe Russian troops invaded Ukraine. I see it with my own eyes and I hear it too. Horrible things are happening here. Friends, come together, help each other and everything will be fine. The truth is ours and victory will also be ours”, said the champion.

Yaroslav Amosov has his belt defense scheduled against Michael Page at Bellator London, on May 13th. It is not yet known, however, whether the current situation between Russia and Ukraine will cause any changes to the organization's plans.
