Still recovering from the serious injury suffered in April 2021, Chris Weidman is certain that he will return to MMA. After undergoing surgery and countless physiotherapy sessions, the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg) is in no rush, but guarantees that he will step into the Octagon this season.

“I want to fight before I turn 38, in June. It's my goal. I hate seeing my old age when I'm announced”, said the athlete, in an interview with 'MMA Fighting'.

Even focused on the return after the fracture similar to that of Anderson Silva, in 2013, Weidman understands that it is a long process. Therefore, the veteran is careful not to return before the necessary time.

“It is a very serious injury. I've been through many. I've had 25 surgeries, but this one was different. There are many processes. I have goals for when I will fight, but I won't die if I delay a month or two. I will return in 2022”, he assured.

Without fighting for almost a year, Chris explained how his recovery is going. According to the athlete, there are still steps to be taken before exposing himself to an MMA confrontation.

“My leg is still not where it should be, where I'm happy stepping into the octagon against high-level athletes and where I can be the best. There is still a little pain, but I am supporting myself with the other leg as I walk around”, he concluded.

The injury suffered by Weidman occurred in the confrontation against Uriah Hall. Interestingly, Weidman was Anderson's opponent when the Brazilian went through his injury almost 10 years ago.

At the time, Chris would try to start his run towards a new title shot. The American's moment, however, was not the best, as he had lost in six of his last 10 UFC appearances.
