Alexander Gustafsson points to Glover Teixeira as inspiration for UFC comeback

Without playing since July 2020 and three defeats in his last appearances, the Swede returns to action in the duel against Ben Rothwell, on May 21st. And, in an interview with 'The MMA Hour', the fighter revealed his desire to turn things around and names the light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg.), Glover Teixeira, as a great inspiration in Ultimate.

“He is a great inspiration, without a doubt. He is 42 years old and at the top. It's an inspiration to see him recover and be a champion. It's incredible to see. He's a very tough guy. Very hard. And it’s very impressive that when he’s focused, he’s a beast,” Gustafsson said.

In preparing to play in Ultimate, Alexander highlighted that he has great respect for Glover Teixeira. According to him, the Brazilian managed to overcome adversity to reach the top of the world.

“He suffered some tough defeats – like when he faced me and tried to beat Jon Jones -, but it only goes in a direction where it continues to seek victory, no matter what. He's impressive and now he has the belt. I have all the respect for him,” he added.
