Amid speculation about contract renewal with the UFC, Francis Ngannou runs the risk of no longer working in the organization. The heavyweight champion suffered ruptures of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his knees and will have to undergo surgery. The information was confirmed by his manager, Marquel Martin.

“We plan to have surgery and begin the recovery process so we can get him back to 100% as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we hope to find a peaceful solution in these contract negotiations with the intention of thanking all the fans for their support and belief in Francis”, reported Martin, in an interview with 'ESPN' North-American.
Francis' recovery is expected to take nine months. The injuries in question occurred during preparation for combat against Cyryl Gane, UFC 270 last Saturday (22). Despite the disruptions, Ngannou decided to continue in the event. After starting at a disadvantage, the Cameroonian adapted his style to Wrestling and managed to overcome his former training partner in the judges' unanimous decision.
Ngannou is in a delicate position, as he made the eighth appearance stipulated in his contract with Ultimate. He still has an automatic renewal clause due to being champion, but has stated that he would not fight again under the terms of his current deal.
