the american Chael Sonnen confirmed the use of the controversial Testosterone Replacement Treatment for a fight against Mauritius Shogun, in Boston, on August 17th. The fighter himself certified the information to the website “Boston.com”.

“This (use of TRT) was accepted. They had a meeting. But I never broke a rule anywhere,” Sonnen said. The athlete, who suffers from hypogonadism (a disease that compromises hormone production), is one of the main names to use the treatment, along with Dan Henderson e Vitor belfort.

The use of TRT divides opinions in the MMA world. Despite this, as treatment is legalized in many places within pre-established standards, UFC president Dana White has already made statements exempting athletes who use hormone replacement therapy – even though he said he was “not a fan” of the resource.

Sonnen, who was caught on doping for high testosterone levels after his first fight against Anderson Silva in 2010, he explained that he was using TRT at the time. “All they said was that they already knew I was on TRT. They didn't understand the test itself. They said: 'No, your levels are too high, you are 17 to 1'. But I could be 1.700 to 1 and still be within the legal limit. They don’t understand the test itself”, explained the athlete.

The loudmouth also pointed out what he considers to be other problems in the episode. “So they gave me six months (suspension) instead of a year. The judge from that night is in prison, and the executive director has returned home to Washington and been fired. But these are the guys I'm working with. That’s what you get when you deal with the government,” he concluded.
