O Jungle Fight returns to Rio de Janeiro, this Saturday (20), for the 55th performance of the show. However, the fight program suffered an important loss. At the official weigh-in, champion Robson New, who exceeded the category weight by 2,7kg, the limit for the flyweight division (up to 57 kg.) and was banned from the event due to his lack of commitment.
The weigh-in, which had some tense moments during the confrontations, presented only one problem in relation to weight, precisely with Robson “New”, holder of the interim belt in the category and initially scheduled to face Marcos Vinicius “Cabecinha” in the main fight of the Jungle Fight 55. With 2,7 kg above the category limit, “New” had a deadline of two hours to reach the stipulated weight, but was unsuccessful and ended up being disqualified from the competition, giving way to Júnior Boya, an athlete from Game Fight.
Challenger for the interim belt of the ”Cabecinha” organization experienced a completely opposite situation to his former opponent, being 2kg underweight. As usual, the president of the Jungle FightWallid Ismail stressed the importance of maintaining fighters' characteristics and called for more professionalism and respect for lovers of the sport.
“Robson “New”, for not making weight, lost his belt and will never fight again in the Jungle Fight. This serves as a message to all fighters, in a title fight anyone who doesn't make weight is out of the event. This is a sport that requires discipline. What he did was disrespectful to his opponent and the public. For me, he doesn’t watch the event even on TV”, he declared.
