The days of verbal confrontation are behind us. The North American Chael Sonnen, which has a fight scheduled against Mauricio Shogun for August 17th, he adopted a calmer line when referring to his rival. Not only does the loudmouth not attack the Brazilian, he also praises him.
Sonnen appeared on a radio show in Boston to promote the fight, which will take place in the same city. “Rua seems like a really great guy,” said the former middleweight and light heavyweight challenger. “He is one of the few legends who are still fighting. At some point you get old and retire from the sport, so there is an instant definition of legend status. He is a true legend. I admire what he did in the ring.”
Despite all the praise, Sonnen is not Sonnen without a hint of provocation or self-promotion. And he finished the speech in his style. “He (Shogun) is not like me, but he is very good.”
Shogun and Sonnen will face each other at UFC Fight Night 26, in the first edition of the biggest event in the world on the new North American channel FOX Sports 1. The duel will be the main fight of the card which will be played at the TD Garden gym.
