This is not the first time that Carlos has experienced a drama with anti-doping tests. In 2017, the fighter was prevented from competing by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) due to the use of steroids. At the time, the athlete had recently signed a contract with Ultimate, but was only able to debut in 2020.

Also according to 'Combate', the harsh punishment from the Nevada Athletic Commission was accepted only due to the high costs of filing an appeal to annul or reduce the sentence. In a statement to the website, Thiago Okamura, Boi's manager, explained the situation.

“We had about 13 uncertified supplements and five medications that he had taken or used in that one month period, and the testing alone would cost about US$300 (about R$1.662) to US$500 (about R$2.770), each. In addition to the open supplement he had taken, we would have to find other samples of these supplements/medicines from the same batch as control if we found one that was contaminated. After the test results, we would have to hire a lawyer to carry out this defense, and this was estimated at up to US$10 (approximately R$55.400).

A pupil of the Brazilian fans, Carlos debuted in Ultimate in July 2020, when he suffered a controversial defeat to Sergey Spivak. Afterwards, the Bahian competed in four more fights, winning on three occasions.
