Olympic medalist Esquiva Falcão confirmed this Tuesday (11) that he will be part of the main card of the so-called Fight of the Century, which will be held on January 30, at SpeedWay Music Park, in Balneário Camboriú (SC). The leader of the world middleweight rankings of the International Boxing Federation (FIB) will have an exhibition fight against former BBB and A Fazenda, Yuri Fernandes. The fight precedes the main show of the night between the YouTuber Whindersson Nunes and former world champion Popó Freitas.
The fight between Esquiva Falcão and Yuri Fernandes will not be worth points and will not have a winner. It will just be an exhibition for fans of the noble art.
“I'm very excited to be part of this card. It will be an opportunity to show that boxing is a fascinating sport and attracts the public, media attention and high numbers. O Whindersson Nunes and Popó called me to brighten up this event”, said Esquiva Falcão.
The man from Espírito Santo had his last official fight in November last year in the United States. In the fight against Canadian Patrice Volny, he obtained a shared victory among the judges, after the interruption due to a cut on the Brazilian boxer's forehead in the sixth round. The result kept the boxer undefeated in his career with 29 wins and 20 knockouts.
Esquiva Falcão, 32 years old, is still waiting to decide who will be his opponent for the IBF world title. Kazakh Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin will face Japanese Ryota Murata, with no date set yet. The winner will have to challenge the Brazilian in 2022.
“I'm focused on this opportunity and I'm not going to let it pass me by! My turn has come and Brazil will have a new boxing champion. It’s just a matter of time”, added the Espírito Santo.
At the end of last year, the Brazilian renewed with the boxing promotion company Top Rank for another three seasons. The agreement between the boxer and Bob Arum's group was articulated by manager Sergio Batarelli. Esquiva Falcão has been there since 2014.
In 2022, in addition to the long-awaited fight for the belt and the exhibition against Yuri Fernandes, Esquiva should enter the ring for another fight against a boxer similar to his likely opponent to maintain his rhythm and perfect his strikes in search of the world title.
