Paul Felder believes Charles do Bronx could be UFC lightweight champion for 'a long time'

The former fighter and current UFC commentator believes his victory over Charles was the turning point in the Brazilian's career

The year 2021 was magical for Charles of the Bronx. After 11 years fighting in the UFC, the Brazilian finally won the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg) in May and closed with a flourish by defending the belt in December. Last man to defeat the Brazilian in the octagon, Paul felder believes that this could be just the beginning of a long reign.

Today working as a UFC commentator, Paul felder revealed, in an interview with journalist Helen Yee, talked about the evolution of Charles of the Bronx since the confrontation between them in 2017 and said he believes the Brazilian can dominate the division for a long time.

“I think he can (dominate the division for a long time), I really do. I think the way he's evolving, the way he's getting stronger and more confident, I think that's the key for him. Years ago, when I defeated him, he seemed a little broken. He didn't know where he wanted to be, whether it was featherweight or lightweight. I remember during my fight he published a photo of the scale showing that he was 70 kg three days before the weigh-in. He was clearly trying to show the UFC that he could be at featherweight,” Felder recalled.

Since then, however, the Brazilian has scored ten consecutive victories, including winning and defending the lightweight belt. Felder believes that the confrontation between them was the turning point in the current champion's career.

“I think after I defeated him, he found the confidence and changed whatever it was he needed to change. Now I believe he has what it takes to stay at the top of that division for a long time,” concluded Felder.
