Another year comes to an end and, once again, combat sports have not disappointed their fans, especially those who enjoy beautiful knockouts. In the UFC octagon, in the circular Bellator cage or in the boxing rings, we had some strong candidates for “Knockout of the Year”. The team at SUPER FIGHTS separated the 15 best knockouts of the year (in chronological order). Check out the list!
Cory Sandhagen x Frankie Edgar – UFC Vegas 18
In the second month of the year we already had a sign of what we would see ahead in 2021. At UFC Vegas 18, in February, Cory Sandhagen knocked out Frankie Edgar with a spectacular flying knee in one of the most beautiful knockouts of the Ultimate season.
Francis Ngannou x Stipe Miocic 2 – UFC 260
The second knockout on the list came in the main fight of UFC 260, at the end of March. The Cameroonian Francis Ngannou showed his feared knockout power and took down the then champion Stipe Miocic in the rematch between the two, taking the heavyweight belt (up to 120,2 kg) for himself.
Rose Namajunas x Zhang Weili – UFC 261
At the end of April it was time to Rose namajunas winning the strawweight belt (up to 52,1 kg) with a beautiful high kick that sent then-champion Zhang Weili to the canvas.
Kamaru Usman x Jorge Masvidal – UFC 261
In the same event in which Rose namajunas won the strawweight title, Kamaru Usman defended the welterweight belt (up to 77 kg) with an overwhelming knockout over Jorge masvidal in the reunion of the two in the Octagon.
Jiri Prochazka vs. Dominick Reyes – UFC Las Vegas 25
In the following event, another strong candidate for the Knockout of the Year award. The Czech Jiri Prochazka showed why he is one of the most feared light heavyweights (up to 93 kg) in the world and knocked out Dominick reyes with a brutal spinning elbow.
Edson Barboza x Shane Burgos – UFC 262
First Brazilian on the list, Edson Barboza He once again proved to be one of the best strikers in the UFC and scored a delayed knockout in Shane burgos, who, after receiving the blow, took a few seconds to go to the canvas.
Charles do Bronx x Michael Chandler – UFC 262
In the same event as the knockout with “delay” of Edson Barboza, Charles of the Bronx made history by knocking out Michael chandler and win the UFC lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg) after 11 years fighting for the organization.
Ignacio Bahamondes x Roosevelt Robert – UFC Vegas 34
We left Brazil, but remained in South America with another strong candidate for “Knockout of the Year”. The Chilean Ignatius Bahamondes knocked out Roosevelt Robert with a beautiful spinning kick to the UFC Las Vegas 34.
Anderson Silva x Tito Ortiz – Boxing
In a list of knockouts, we could not ignore the noble art. From the octagon to the ring, Anderson Silva put on a show and took no notice Tito Ortiz at a Triller event in September. The “Spider” added another epic knockout to his extensive collection.
Tyson Fury x Deontay Wilder – Boxing
Still in the ring, the heavyweights Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder met for the third time in October. The result was a brutal knockout for the Brit in the eleventh round.
Chris Barnett vs Gian Villante – UFC 268
Back in the octagon, the UFC 268 presented us with three memorable knockouts. The first of them was “chubby charisma” Chris Barnett, which surprised Gian Villante with a beautiful spinning kick to win the victory.
Alex Poatan x Andreas Michailidis – UFC 268
Another beautiful knockout from UFC 268 it was on account of Alex Poatán Pereira, world kickboxing legend who presented his UFC calling card with a beautiful flying knee that he took Andreas Michailidis the knockout.
Marlon Vera x Frankie Edgar – UFC 268
Not yet UFC 268, Marlon Vera knocked out Frankie Edgar with a front kick that “smashed” the former lightweight champion’s face.
Sergio Pettis x Kyoji Horiguchi – Bellator 272
From the octagon to Bellator's circular cage, Sergio Pettis was losing the fight but managed to defend the bantamweight belt (under 61,2 kg) against Japanese Kyoji Horiguchi thanks to a surprising spinning punch connected at the right moment.
Jake Paul x Tyron Woodley – Boxing
Closing the list, but not least, the YouTuber Jake Paul shocked the world by brutally knocking out the former UFC champion, Tyron woodley, in a rematch held in December.
