Almost two years after holding the last event on Brazilian soil, before the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the UFC has a date set to return to the country. According to information from the website “Combate.com”, the organization has booked the Jeunesse Arena, in Rio de Janeiro, for May 7th. Still according to “Combate.com”, there is no confirmation whether the event will be a numbered card or a Fight Night, but the tendency is for it to be the UFC 274.

The last UFC card in Brazil took place on March 14, 2020, at the Nilson Nelson gym, in Brasília. In this ocasion, Charles of the Bronx, who was not yet lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg), submitted Kevin Lee in the main fight. The event took place in the week that the pandemic was declared in the country and, because of this, there was no public presence.
This will be the eleventh time that the UFC lands on Rio de Janeiro soil. Rio de Janeiro has already been the scene of legendary fights Anderson Silva, Rodrigo Minotauro, Vitor belfort, José Algo, Mauritius Shogun, Lyoto Machida and much more. The last event held in the Marvelous City was the UFC 237, carried out in 2019, when Jessica Stacker knocked out Rose namajunas and became the organization's strawweight champion (up to 52,1 kg).
