“As soon as I crashed, I felt so useless. I was like, 'Oh, not only did I give up, I gave up on myself, I gave up on my dream, I gave up on everything.' I said 'I'll never feel like that again',” Usman said.
The Nigerian said he 'felt like crap' after the defeat and quickly returned to training looking to improve his game.
“I was coming back (home) and thinking, 'I suck. I need to learn everything there is to learn about this sport if I want to be champion.' I took a week off, came back the following week, bought a kimono and started training jiu-jitsu every Monday, Wednesday and Friday,” said Kamaru.
Usman's tormentor, Jose Caceres, did not have as brilliant a career as the Nigerian's, however, the welterweight champion stated that he would like to have a rematch to be able to 'settle the score'.
“I would 1000% love a rematch. Yes, I think about it. I wanted to be like Apollo Creed and just say, 'You know what? I can choose anyone, let's get this guy!', concluded the welterweight leader.
After being submitted by Jose Caceres, the Nigerian won 19 consecutive victories and was never defeated again in his career. The fighter has an MMA record of 20 wins and just one setback.
