Aljamain Sterling suffers a cut in his mouth, receives stitches and jokes about the situation: 'I'll be back in 2023'

Ultimate bantamweight champion (up to 61,2kg) after the fateful fight that resulted in the disqualification of Petr yan, March 2021, aljamain sterling continues without defending his throne. Without fighting for almost nine months, the athlete decided to play with the situation involving his inactivity. After suffering a cut on his mouth during training, the fighter joked about the deadline for returning to active duty.

"Three points. Brand new. The doctor said I’ll be back in 2023,” wrote Sterling, in his account on Twitter.

A standout for the roosters, Aljamain dealt with injuries throughout the season, which made his long-awaited rematch against Petr yan. Without the linear champion, the UFC ended up creating the group's interim title, won by the Russian October, when he overcame Cory Sandhagen.

Now, with two champions in the under-61,2kg group, the logic is that the reunion between Sterling and Yan will happen next. Still without a confrontation, the athletes must promote the long-awaited rematch, this time, in a clash for title unification.
