Matt Brown tests positive for Covid-19 and is out of UFC Las Vegas 44

Veteran welterweight would face Bryan Barbarena at the December 4th event

With just under two weeks left until the event, the card of UFC Las Vegas 44 suffered a major casualty. Matt Brown is out of the fight against Bryan Barbarena after testing positive for Covid-19.

The veteran welterweight (up to 77 kg) broke the news via social media. In a statement to the North American website “MMAFighting.com”, Brown stated that he is recovering well, but will not be able to compete in the event on December 4th.

“S*** day today. I tested positive for Covid, so my fight next weekend is cancelled,” wrote Matt Brown on social media.

UFC veteran Matt Brown has been with the organization since 2008, when he was hired through the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter. At 40 years old, the “Imortal” comes from a knockout victory over the Brazilian Dhiego Lima in June this year. The American has three wins in his last five fights.

It is not yet known whether the UFC will look for a replacement to face Bryan Barbarena in the UFC Las Vegas 44. “Bam Bam” seeks to recover from the defeat suffered against Jason Witt in July.

O UFC Las Vegas 44 takes place on December 4th, at UFC Apex, and features an important bantamweight duel between José ALdo e Rob font in the main fight of the night.
