“Fighting Poirier again is a hard sell. You want to bring the wife back, you want to bring the past, you want to bring the injury, you're going to move the needle for sure, but you're going to have to work. It's a tough sell. McGregor was unable to defeat Poirier when he was training hard. McGregor was motivated, reinvigorated, trained again and was unable to beat Poirier. We don't know what he was doing to prepare, but we know he was doing something. Now, we know better. That's what an injury represents. He can't do anything for a period of time, so certainly just using logic, there's no opportunity for McGregor to improve,” Sonnen said.

Conor McGregor e Dustin poirier They have already faced each other on three occasions. In their first clash, still at featherweight (up to 65,7kg), in 2014, the Irishman won by knockout in the first round. In the following two duels, in January and July 2021, 'Diamante' was the one who emerged victorious with a triumph also by knockout and another after 'Notório' suffered a serious leg fracture.
