O Jungle Fight There's a new lightweight champion. The carioca, based in Santa Catarina, Ivan Batman took no notice of Lúcio Curado and submitted the former title holder to take the belt in the under-70 kg division. The fight was the main attraction of the Jungle Fight 54, an event held this Saturday (29), in Barra do Piraí, in the interior of Rio de Janeiro.
The fight
Known for his ground game, Ivan Batman didn't want to risk striking against Curado. As soon as the fight started, the training partner of Thiago tavares he soon closed the distance to take the dispute to the ground.
After falling on top, Batman showed all his jiu-jitsu skills. Ivan landed a few punches on Curado, who tried to explode to get up. But the carioca took advantage of the moment and reached his rival's back to finish with a rear naked choke, in just over two minutes of combat.
“It’s a lot of dedication, a lot of training. I have to thank the entire Team Tavares/Ataque Duplo team. This belt is not just mine, it belongs to everyone who is by my side”, said Batman, who couldn't hold back his tears after the victory.
Women fight evenly
In the second most important fight of the night, the women entered the Octagon and fought a balanced duel. On one side, Érica Paes, the only fighter to defeat Chris Cyborg in MMA. On the other, the undefeated Bethe Correia.
Bethe started better, controlling the center of the octagon with a lot of movement. But Érica showed why she submitted Cyborg, considered the greatest MMA fighter in the world. After taking the fight to the ground, Érica came close to winning the fight on two occasions. She managed to land a guillotine and an armbar in the final minute, but Bethe escaped the first and was saved by the bell in the second.
In the second round, however, vaccinated against the ground game, Bethe worked at medium distance and avoided the risk of being taken to the ground. The fighter entered the range of action with great speed. Érica, on the other hand, showed tiredness and was unable to respond to her rival's attacks. History repeated itself in the next robbery and Bethe Correia beat Érica Paes in a unanimous decision by the judges (30×27, 29×28, 30×27).
