Brazilian fighter Ururahy Rodrigues was responsible for capturing a homicide suspect last Wednesday (26), in the city of Villa Rica, state of Georgia (USA). Ururahy, who played for Bellator in February, chased and detained a young man who was part of the group of people who robbed and shot the owner of the jewelry store next to the jiu-jitsu academy he owns.
According to information from the North American TV channel “WSBTV”, reproduced on the website MMA fighting, four people broke into the jewelry store of victim Mitch Mobley, 45, a friend of Rodrigues. During the action, they were approached by the owner of the establishment, who was hit by gunshots that caused his death before the group fled.
Upon realizing what had happened, Ururahy left his gym, “Dekfon 1”, and chased the criminals. The Brazilian was successful in capturing Eric Billings, just 16 years old. According to reports, Rodrigues immobilized him with a chokehold until the police arrived. Billings was booked as an adult and charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. According to local news, the young man could be sentenced to the death penalty if his participation in the murder is proven.
This Thursday (27), the police arrested the second suspect: Raphael Rucker. Despite the two arrests, three other people remain at large, including the driver who was waiting for the group to escape. Aiming to help with the investigations, Rodrigues, who said in an interview that he was “not a hero”, released a video from his gym's security camera that could help identify the criminals.
Ururahy Rodrigues, 34 years old, has a record of five wins and five losses as a professional MMA fighter. The main highlight in his record is a victory, achieved in 2010, by unanimous decision of the judges against his compatriot Diego Brandao – reality show champion The Ultimate Fighter 14.
