Riding on five consecutive victories, the third longest undefeated streak for welterweights today, behind only Georges St-Pierre and John hendricks, Matt Brown prepares to face the Brazilian Thiago Pitbull at the premiere event of the new UFC On FOX Sports 1 series on August 17.
Despite the challenge facing the Brazilian, the North American is already looking ahead. Brown gave an interview to the website Bleacher Report this Tuesday and did not hide his confidence in recent retrospect. The welterweight said he can beat St. Pierre and that he will destroy the champion if they ever face each other.
“Everyone thinks I'm delusional or crazy for thinking like that, but I know who I am,” he said. “If I get there I know I would destroy GSP. When I get to him, I'm going to take that belt, I'm not going to play with a world title at stake. I'm 110% confident that if I can show my best, he won't stand a chance in hell against me. The confrontation with Thiago is, by far, much more difficult for me than GSP”, he said.
Not to just appear like bravado, “The Immortal”, as he is known, explained why he would beat the Canadian champion: “GSP wouldn't trade with me, he will definitely try to take me down, but my wrestling is on a completely different level than what people have seen from me ", shot.
I've been training for years with the Ohio University team, guys with Olympic aspirations, the best team in the United States. I don't think GSP is in a position to fight any of these guys. The only thing left for him to do is fight on his feet with me. Even though he has skill, he won't be able to deal with my pressure, tenacity and desire to win. I’m one of the worst possible matchups for GSP,” he concluded.
