“I just visualize my hand raised, me very happy, without energy, tired of fighting, that's what I see. I don't know if (the victory) will come via the fast track, I don't know if it will be on points. I know I'm ready to do my best on Saturday to leave with my hand raised.”

100% preparation

“Man, the camp it was wonderful. I came to the United States a little earlier, I've been here for four and a half months, I was also able to help my teammates in their camp and now it's my turn. I'm 100% motivated, I can't wait until Saturday to let the dogs out in the Octagon.”

“The defeats I had are part of my profession. I say that where we learn, there is no defeat, there is no failure. So, I think it's all part of my evolution, I'm growing more every day as an athlete. The other day, I was talking to some friends and I said that if Pezão today faces Pezão from a year ago, two years ago, he would run over him. I'm feeling better every day, these are things that are part of our profession and now I'm ready to do my best. I can't control what the opponent will do, but I know that I'm at my best, my best version.”

More strategic fight against Maurice Greene

“People generally remember my last fight a lot. But if you take all my performances in the UFC, even the defeats, I always had a very good and effective grappling game. In my fight against Clint Hester, I submitted him and dominated him on the ground. My return fight to heavyweight was against Adam Wieczorek, who was a finisher. He had 11 wins and nine submissions, one of which was by omoplata, which hadn't happened in the UFC yet, so I put him down and canceled his ground attack. Himself Stefan struve, even though I had my complications in the first round, I was on top the whole time, kneading. I will always look for a stand-up fight, it's my game. I go after the opponent as soon as we touch gloves. But I have this trick up my sleeve, which is my game, I am a Cicero Costa black belt. Few know, but the first discipline I trained was Judo. Wherever the fight takes place, I go.”

Motivated by the co-main fight?

“Of course, every athlete who is in the UFC wants to do the main event, being in the main fights, but I think the icing on the cake is in the fight. Ben Rothwell is a big fight for me, it's a good springboard to put me in the rankings. I'm more motivated by this. For me, it doesn't matter that much (being in the co-main event), the most important thing is the fight itself.

About Ben Rothwell

“What Ben Rothwell will find is a fast and explosive Pezão. That's characteristic of me and that's what he'll find. He's a very tough guy, he's been in the UFC for a long time, but I see myself in the moment. No matter who the fight was against, whether it was the division champion or anyone else, they would find the best version of me, my best phase and my best camp.”

Will you reach the top-15 if you win?

“Certainly, a victory over Ben Rothwell will boost me a lot. I'm working hard, because I know the importance of this fight for me and as the heavyweight category has seen a good revival, I think there's room for me there.”
