Last Saturday (6), Frankie Edgar ended up being knocked out by Marlon Vera in the third round of UFC 268, held at Madison Square Garden, in New York (USA). Despite being surprised by a devastating front kick from the Ecuadorian, the North American believes he could have continued in the fight, despite understanding the interruption.

“I thought I was doing well in the fight, especially in the first round. The second round was a little more balanced. In the third round, I also thought I was doing very well. I started to pick up the pace, landing a lot of punches. I got hit by that front kick, but I think the referee could have let it go a little longer. I think it was an early stop? Yes. But I'm not in his job to make sure the fighters are safe, so I understand,” said Edgar, in an interview with 'Champ and the Tramp'.
Then, Frankie also asked about the criteria adopted by the referees – who decide not to interrupt some duels quickly, but opt to stop other fights. He also highlighted a small dialogue he had with Todd Anderson the moment he was knocked out.
“If you look at two fights between me, they let some guys fight until they almost died. I was hit by a kick, but my head didn't even touch the floor – only my hand hit the carpet. Vera made me look worse than I really was, but when the referee stopped, I looked up and thought, 'Man, no. I was fine. What did you do?' and he stated that it was a good stoppage. But that's okay, it's in the past. I lost,” he finished.
