Even with his history of public confusion, the series of criticisms and provocations made by Chael Sonnen to NBA star LeBron James in recent days surprised. However, in an interview with the website “Bleacher Report”, the loudmouth revealed that the feud with the basketball player is not gratuitous, and cited James' behavior at UFC 148 to justify it.
“He (LeBron James) asked for UFC tickets for my fight against Anderson Silva. We put the guy in the front row and throughout the night he snubbed the fans. He is a guest in our house and refuses to sign autographs or take photos. This guy walked up to my fiancée backstage and asked if she had a Tic Tac on her blouse or if she was just happy to see him,” Sonnen said.
And the former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger didn’t stop there. Chael commented on another episode involving the Miami Heat winger on the same night. “A UFC employee told me he saw a mother take her wheelchair-bound son to him to take a photo. LeBron was walking toward them. When he reached the child, the mother stopped the wheelchair. LeBron moved his wheelchair out of the way and continued walking. I would like to slap him in the face”, said the loudmouth.
Finally, when asked about the chance to fight against his new rival, Sonnen – who is preparing to face the Brazilian Mauritius Shogun – provoked LeBron James. “He would run away faster than his scalp. His hair went north, his talent went south, and his mother went west,” he concluded.
