Current leader in the weight-for-pound rankings in Ultimate, Kamaru Usman gave news that may worry his fans. Close to yet another defense of his welterweight title (up to 77kg), the 34-year-old Nigerian was honest in admitting that he doesn't see himself far from retirement. The subject came up when the champion was asked about a possible fight against Khamzat Shimaev, a new phenomenon in the organization.

“As for facing him (Chimaev), you know, I'm at a point in my life where I understand how much it (fighting) takes out of you. I've been away from my daughter for nine weeks. Video calling helps, but it's not the same as being present every day. Obviously, I don't know how much longer I'll keep doing this. It needs to make sense to me now. If he is able to get there, then yes, we will talk about that at the moment”, said Usman, in a promotional press conference for the UFC 268.

Undisputed leader of the under-77kg category, Usman has confirmed a convincing reign since assuming the throne in 2019. Since conquering Tyron woodley, the Nigerian has already defended the position on four occasions.

Called a 'phenomenon' by Dana White, Chimaev has been writing an impeccable history in the UFC. In four appearances for the organization, the Swede passed all his opponents in the fast lane practically without being touched. His recent achievements have given him 10th place in the welterweight rankings.

This Saturday (6), Kamaru will have another tough commitment ahead of him. At the UFC 268, the champion repeats one of the best clashes of the 2019 season, sharing the octagon with his biggest rival, Colby covington.
