After impressively defeating li jingliang No. UFC 267, upon his return to the octagon after a year away, Khamzat Shimaev there is already a new possible opponent on the horizon. In an interview with the North American website MMAJunkie.com, Magny revealed that he was scheduled to perform on the December 18th card in Las Vegas, but, due to an injury to his opponent, the fight was cancelled. The American stated that Chimaev would be the ideal replacement to face him and assured that he is capable of ending the Swede's unbeaten run.

“I was offered a fight for December 18th, but it ended up being canceled because my opponent was injured shortly after. The UFC is currently actively working to secure a replacement. So, in an ideal world, this fight takes place on December 18th. He had zero damage against Jingliang, and, in my opinion, would be a good alternative to him. I would give him enough time to get back in the gym and prepare to face an opponent like me and have a great fight. I want to go to war against a guy like Chimaev. I'm sure I can drag him into deep water and defeat him. That’s what I’m trying to do against him”, guaranteed Magny.

In the UFC since 2013, Neil Magny is going through a good phase in the organization, with four wins in the last five fights. In his last appearance, in May this year, the North American defeated Geoff neal in the unanimous decision, recovering from the defeat suffered against Michael chiesa in January.

Khamzat Shimaev caught attention in 2020 with his overwhelming start in the UFC. The Russian-born Swede scored three victories in two months, two of which were just 10 days apart. After more than a year away from competition due to complications related to Covid-19, Chimaev made a triumphant return last Saturday (30), with an impressive finish over li jingliang No. UFC 267.
