The Brazilian Yuri Marajó will have the biggest challenge of his Ultimate career. He stares Urijah faber at UFC on Fox Sports 1, an event that takes place on August 28, in Boston. But if for the athlete from Pará the duel could mark a climb towards the top of the division, the North American fighter does not welcome the challenge.
Faber stated that as soon as the fight was announced, he had no memory of Marajó. Despite praising the Brazilian, the former champion of the extinct WEC said that the only one who could lose something in the challenge will be him.
“It took me a while to remember his face. But I remember seeing him fight, and he's a really tough guy. This fight is very dangerous for me in many ways. The worst part of this story is that no one knows who this guy is, and there's not much to gain from this fight. He's number 13 in the UFC rankings, and I'm number 3. It's a dangerous fight,” said Faber in an interview with the MMA Junkie website.
Despite considering the challenge bad, Faber showed that he knows Yuri's career and believes that they can have a good duel. “It will be a very difficult fight. His record is 28 wins and four losses, and mine is 28 wins and six losses. He fought consistently in three categories (lightweight, featherweight and bantamweight), has good striking and great jiu-jitsu and won 12 fights by knockout and 12 by submission. It's an equal fight. At the current moment in my career, I'm looking for good fights that will take me to the top. Even if no one knows who Marajó is, it will be a tough fight”, he concluded.
