Fedor explains why he prevented his fight with Cigano and justifies the choice of Tim Johnson

Legend of mixed martial arts, Fedor Emelianenko had his return confirmed in August this year and, in the same period, his name was linked to that of Junior Gypsy, who had just been released from his UFC contract. However, the Russian surprised when he was announced as Tim Johnson's new opponent in the Bellator 269, which takes place this Saturday (23).

In an interview with 'MMA fighting', Fedor explained Johnson's choice when returning to the organization's decagon. The heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg.) stated that the North American was a more suitable option given the current situation, compared to the Brazilian and other fighters who were also vying for the opportunity.

“Cigano, for example, had a series of defeats alongside (his record) and was also fired from the UFC. That's why I don't think it would be very appropriate to fight him compared to Tim Johnson. Not to mention that Bellator came up with a lot of options and Tim was a pretty obvious choice,” said Emelianenko.

Former champion of the extinct 'Pride', Fedor Emelianenko He is considered by many to be one of the best fighters of all time. In his career, the Russian has 39 wins, six losses and one fight without result. He has been fighting since December 2019, when he won Rampage Jackson by knockout in the first round.

Tim Johnson, in turn, has a record of 15 triumphs and seven setbacks. The American last competed in June this year, losing to Valentin Moldavsky in a unanimous decision by the judges.
