In an interview with the North American website MMAJunkie.com, Vettori, who like Borrachinha is known for making strong statements before his fights, highlighted the “soft” atmosphere between the two in recent weeks. The Italian, however, made a point of stating that, despite having nothing personal against his opponent, he is not a fan of the Brazilian.

“I feel like we’re pretty quiet getting close to the fight. Let's see how it goes during fight week. I don't necessarily like the guy. Not someone I would be friends with. He talked a lot of s*** before, here and there. But I don't know him personally. He's never done anything to me, so it's not personal. That said, I don't need anything personal to knock someone unconscious. I don’t need anything personal to deal with problems in the Octagon”, assured Vettori.

Vettori and Borrachinha have something in common. The two enter the octagon this Saturday looking to recover from defeats to the current middleweight champion Israel adesanya. The Brazilian was knocked out by Izzy in September 2020, while the Italian lost to the Nigerian in a unanimous decision by the judges in June this year. For this reason, Vettori believes he is superior to Borrachinha even in stand-up combat.

“He is good in some areas of stand-up fighting. He has a heavy hand and knockout power, but I feel that overall, as an MMA fighter, I'm superior. Even in stand-up fighting I'm superior. I'm going to give the fans what they want. I want to knock this guy out. My mind is ready, my body is ready and my spirit is ready,” Vettori said.
