In an interview with the North American website 'B.J. Penn', Johnson – who faced Cejudo on two occasions – criticized the possible return of 'Triple C' straight to the Ultimate title. For him, the athlete should test himself against other fighters in the division, before receiving a shot at the belt.
“In my opinion, if Henry (Cejudo) wants to fight him (Volkanovski) as if he were still in the UFC, then work to get there. But he only wants to return if he has a single fight (for the title) guaranteed. If he wants a chance, he should go, have two or three fights at featherweight and get in line like everyone else to finally get a chance”, said Demetrious.
Despite being against a fight between Alexander Volkanovsky e Henry Cejudo, Demetrious Johnson believes that his compatriot could do well if the fight against the champion was confirmed.
“I think he would do well. Volkanovski isn’t a big guy – in terms of height or reach. I think he would work out. Henry Cejudo He’s very skittish, so he could do well”, concluded the North American.
Demetrious Johnson he was the first flyweight champion (56,7 kg) and broke the record for consecutive defenses of an Ultimate title, including a victory over Henry Cejudo. In the rematch, however, 'Triplo C' managed to 'get even' and won in a split decision from the judges, in 2018.
