Former member of the Ultimate featherweight squad (up to 65,7 kg), Geraldo 'Espartano' de Freitas was suspended for two years by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency), after testing positive for the use of exogenous testosterone in a test out of competition. The announcement was made last Wednesday (13).

At the trial hearing, the Brazilian stated that he was not sure how the tests gave a positive result – whether it was due to a test error or the use of a substance that was permitted by the agency. USADA, however, concluded that they did not have evidence to substantiate the allegations. The suspension is retroactive, referring to January 11th of this year.

Geraldo 'Espartano' arrived in the UFC after winning the Brazilian Bantamweight Championship (up to 61,2kg) at Shooto. And, in his debut, he defeated his compatriot Felipe Cabocão in the unanimous decision of the judges.

Then, however, he had two setbacks – against Chris Gutiérrez and Tony Gravely. He returned to compete at Shooto Brasil 107, when he submitted Marcos Cordeiro via armbar. Professional since 2012, Geraldo has a record of 13 wins and six losses in his career.
