The lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg.) is considered, by many, as one of the most difficult and competitive in Ultimate. Number 2 in the official ranking, Justin gaethje spoke about the subject and stated that he was surprised by the classification of Islam makhachev – who reached the top-5 after defeating Thiago Moses, in July of this year.

“I like Dan (Hooker) and I like watching him fight. And it will be good to see Islam face someone of higher rank. It was crazy to watch the guy jump from 12th (ranked) to 5th after beating a guy #14. It was pretty crazy to me. So, yes, I'm happy to see him fight a real ranked fighter,” said Gaethje, in an interview with journalist Helen Yee.
It didn't take long for Makhachev to respond to Gaethje's comments. On his social networks, the 'pupil' of Khabib Nurmagomedov he made fun of the speech and tried to make fun of the North American.
"Hey, Justin gaethje. Aren't you happy that I'm next to you in the lightweight rankings? (laughs)”, joked the Russian.
The paths of the two athletes may even cross soon. This is because Islam makhachev measures forces against Dan Hooker No. UFC 267 on October 30th. And a week later, Justin gaethje faces Michael chandler, in issue no. 268.
