In her first main fight in the UFC, Mackenzie Dern tells how she intends to defeat Marina Rodriguez

Number four in the strawweight division, the Brazilian fighter believes that the way to victory is to take the duel to the ground and achieve a submission

On the eve of starring in his first main fight in Ultimate, Mackenzie dern gave details of how he intends to defeat his compatriot Marina Rodriguez. Protagonist of UFC Las Vegas 39 next Saturday (09), the strawweight (up to 52,2kg) believes that the way forward is to take the duel to the ground, to use her excellent jiu-jitsu, and stated that she was already hoping to headline her first event in organization.

“I definitely know the way to win is to take her to the ground. If I can get there, I hope to get a submission or a TKO. The plan is to take her to the ground and I have 25 minutes to do that, so that's a goal. I think I need one more submission to be the record holder in all women's divisions, but I've never achieved a technical knockout before. Maybe I’ll try for that,” said Dern.

Excited about starring in her first main event in Ultimate, Mackenzie was excited for the fight and admitted that she had been waiting for this moment.

“My first main fight, I'm so excited, this is a big step in my career. I imagined this moment would come, they had already mentioned it. They offered me the main fight against Marina on July 31st. They also suggested that I face the Michelle Waterson, in case Marina was unable to fly due to the pandemic. I saw some interviews with Dana (White) saying nice things about me. I imagined that I would participate in a main fight soon”, concluded the Brazilian fighter.

Number four in the under-52,2kg division, Mackenzie could achieve a dream title shot if he wins. Riding on four successes in a row, the Brazilian fighter hasn't known defeat since October 2010, when she suffered a setback to Amanda ribas. The combatant has a record of 11 positive results and only one negative.
