Former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt admits apprehension ahead of flyweight debut

On the eve of debuting in a new division, 'No Love' recognized the importance of the duel against Kai Kara-France and said that he has already started the weight loss process

Close to his debut in the flyweight division (up to 56,7kg), cody garbrandt admitted that he is apprehensive about the new phase of his life. In an interview with the podcast 'Rollin with the Homies', the former bantamweight champion (up to 61,2kg) recognized the importance of his debut in the new weight range, however, he assured that he will have no difficulty in reaching the category limit.

“This is a big fight for me, it’s a big opportunity for my career. I'm so afraid of this, because I've never weighed 56,7kg to fight. I never fought here. There are many unanswered questions. Just as I was apprehensive to fight Dominick Cruz (in December 2016). Yes, I could go there and knock him out. But can I do five rounds? Can I do this?” said Garbrandt.

Assisted by a nutritionist for the first time in my career, Cody guaranteed that he will not have any difficulties at the weigh-in and declared that he has already started his weight cutting process for his debut.

“My energy levels are good. I've been on a diet for two months, so I've already lost 5 to 7 kilos, more or less. I'm feeling good”, said 'No Love'.

Garbrandt's debut in the flyweight division will be at UFC 269, scheduled for December 11th. The North American will face the New Zealander Kai Kara France on the main card of the show.

Bantamweight leader in 2016, Cody has been in a difficult phase in his career since being dethroned by TJ Dillashaw. In his last five fights, the American suffered four defeats. The fighter has a record of 12 triumphs and four setbacks in professional MMA.
