After several cases that emerged in recent months, the UFC decided to increase the tolerance for marijuana metabolites in anti-doping tests carried out by the organization. Now, the limit that was 50 ng/mL (nanograms per milliliter) is now 150 ng/mL. The change in regulation follows the path indicated by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The new regulations will be applied at TUF Brasil 2 Finale, an event that takes place in Fortaleza, next Saturday (08). The law will not be valid for disputes in the United States, where local athletic commissions are responsible for regulation.
“When we self-regulate around the world, we will use the WADA standard of 150, and we are starting that immediately,” said Marc Ratner, UFC vice president of regulatory affairs.
The measure helps the UFC deal with the many athletes caught in anti-doping for using the drug. Nick Diaz, Dave Herman, Matt Riddle (twice), Thiago Silva (photo), Robbie Peralta, Alex Caceres and Pat Healy are among those caught.
