After having his name suggested as an 'ideal opponent' for Nick Diaz, Ben Askren expresses himself ironically

With his time in UFC erased, former Bellator and ONE Championship champion uses irony to address an attack

the defeat of Nick Diaz on his return to MMA after more than six years raised questions about what should be the next step for 'bad boy' in sport. Hard beaten by Robbie Lawler at UFC 266, the former Strikeforce champion was the protagonist of an 'ESPN' publication, which suggested the name of Ben Asrken as the 'ideal opponent' for a possible challenge. Upon learning of the survey, the veteran spoke out.

Famous for his excellent wrestling, Ben was hired by ONE Championship as the UFC's bet for the welterweight division (up to 77kg). The transaction involved former Ultimate champions, Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Alvarez.

In the company managed by Dana White, Askren was unable to repeat the performances that took him to the Bellator and ONE belts. For the company, the North American competed in three fights, winning only Robbie Lawler – Nick’s executioner last weekend – in his debut.

After the defeat suffered by Demian Maia, in October 2019, Ben recognized the bad moment and decided to hang up his MMA gloves. The athlete, however, took on the challenge of returning to action for a commitment against Jake Paul in boxing. The veteran, however, ended up shocking the world by losing hard with a knockout in the first round, extending the bad moment.

One of the stars of UFC 266, Diaz lived a nightmare last weekend. Former Strikeforce champion and notable figure in mixed martial arts, the athlete did not come close to great performances in the past. Slow and visibly out of shape, the veteran lost by technical knockout in the third round.
