the american Nick newell became a sensation in world MMA when he won the Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC) lightweight belt. But why would a title at a smaller event attract attention? The answer is simple: Newell is a congenital left hand amputee.
A few days ago, Newell withdrew from his next XFC commitment, when he would defend his belt against the undefeated scott holtzmann. The fighter did not reach a financial agreement with the organization, rejected the fight, had his belt revoked and decided to terminate his contract.
After explaining that he made the decision with a view to taking a bigger step in the future, that is, reaching the UFC, Newell announced this Tuesday that he signed a new contract. “I'm very excited to have signed with the World Series of Fighting,” exclaimed the fighter on his personal Twitter account.
Presided over by former K-1 star Ray Sefo, the World Series of Fighting will hold its third edition on June 14, in Las Vegas, in an event that will mark the debut of former UFC challenger Jon Fitch. In addition to Fitch, WSOF is investing in well-known names such as Miguel Torres (former UFC and former WEC bantamweight champion), Gesias Cavalcante and Ronys Torres to compete for second place among the most important organizations in the world, a position currently occupied by Bellator.
Sefo and WSOF vice-president Ali Abdel-Aziz confirmed to the American website MMA Fighting that they had agreed an exclusive multi-fight contract with Newell. The fighter should debut at the August or September event. At 27 years old, Newell is undefeated in MMA in nine professional fights.
