There was a lot of anticipation for the new performance of 'Spider' this weekend. In June, the Brazilian surprised by beating former boxing champion, Julio César Chávez Jr. Now, history has repeated itself, but with a devastating knockout.
Against Ortiz, Silva arrived lighter for the duel. Tito was unable to reach the established weight for the confrontation, but, even so, the duel continued on the card.
After the show, Anderson, 46 years old, now has three wins in four engagements in the 'noble art'. Defeated in the event, Tito loses in his boxing debut.
The fight
In the first round, Ortiz took the initiative with a straight jab, but without power. The North American pressed the Brazilian against the ropes and hit 'Spider' with a combination of blows. Anderson freed himself, but saved his attacks. Silva recovered and, with a cross, erased Ortiz, who collapsed.
Jono Carroll beats Andy Vences and gets closer to belt
A real battle marked the confrontation that preceded the challenge between Anderson Silva e Tito Ortiz. In a duel between super featherweights, Jono Carroll surprised with his power of reaction and turned the match around against Andy Vences. After 10 rounds, the Irishman was declared the winner with a majority decision by the judges.
With the victory, Carroll gets closer to a title fight in the category that has already crowned Acelino Freitas, aka Popó. Now, Jono reaches his 20th victory as a professional boxer.
Better at the start of the match, Vences did not hide his disappointment with the setback. Precise and aggressive for much of the fight, the athlete allowed his opponent to evolve and saw the trick slip through his fingers.
Former champion leaves retirement and takes away rival's unbeaten record
After more than three years away from boxing, David Haye came out of retirement and was back in the ring this weekend. Opponent of Joe Fournier, athlete and businessman, the 40-year-old veteran showed that he still has wood to burn. For eight rounds, the former heavyweight champion controlled his opponent and emerged victorious with a unanimous decision from the judges.
Precise in his attacks and alert in his dodges, Haye valued favoritism in the bookmakers. The triumph marked the 29th positive result in the athlete's career, who lost in four commitments.
Beaten in the duel that opened the main card, Fournier, who divides his activities as a 'businessman' and a fighter, ended up losing his unbeaten record in his career. With his attacks frustrated throughout almost the entire match, Joe now has a setback in 10 challenges.
