Looking for a place in the top-15 of the bantamweight rankings (up to 61,2kg), Sean O'Malley already has a possible opponent in mind for his return to the octagon. In an interview with 'The Schmo', 'Sugar' named the former category champion Dominick Cruz for his next duel, but he remembered that he should only return to active duty at the end of 2021, as he is recovering from an injury to his right hand.

"Who will be? Dominick Cruz? Maybe, I don't know. If he wants to fight in December in Las Vegas, I would love to 'dance' with him. I don't think it will be Dominick, I don't think he will accept this fight. I don't think that's a fight he wants, but if it is, then yes, that would probably be him next. To be honest, I don't really care if he's a top-10 guy, or a top-15 guy, I'm going to get paid either way. Anyone I hit, I'll get the same. I don’t care,” said Sean.
Even though he wants to return to the octagon soon, the bantamweight said he still cannot accept any fight in the short term, as his right hand is injured. 'Sugar' indicated a possible date for their next clash.
“To be honest, I don't want to accept any fight, I don't want to be offered a fight until my hands are 100%. My right hand is swollen, it still hurts. So until December 11th it's about 15 weeks, so maybe it'll be better by then, but we'll see,” concluded O'Malley.
With two victories in 2021, O'Malley could achieve his dream spot in the category classification in case of further success. In his last confrontation, the North American ran over the debutant Kris moutinho with a knockout in the third round. The fight has a record of 14 victories and one setback.
