The veteran confirmed that he will face the champion, Rico Verhoeven, on October 23, in the Netherlands. The information was disclosed on the program 'The MMA Hour', this Monday (23).
Known worldwide in mixed martial arts as a representative of PRIDE, DREAM, Strikeforce and Ultimate, Overeem will return to his roots as a kickboxing athlete at the age of 41. In 2010, the veteran was champion of the renowned K-1 and, more than 10 years later, he will return to the sport.
Having spent time in the UFC between 2011 and 2021, Alistair challenged for the belt in the organization on one occasion. In recent years, the Dutchman has been in a race for a new chance to fight for the title, but ended up stumbling in his commitment against Alexander Volkov, in February this season.
After the setback to the Russian, Overeem ended up leaving Ultimate. Shortly afterwards, the athlete announced his migration to GLORY.
