GSP says McGregor has lost some of his skill and shouldn't face Poirier for a fourth time

Georges St-Pierre believes the Irishman needs to face someone with a different style to find himself in the octagon again

With three defeats in the last four fights, Conor McGregor There is no longer the morale it once was with MMA fans and athletes. Many believe that the Irishman is no longer the same fighter who made history in the Octagon a few years ago by becoming the first simultaneous champion of two weight divisions. One of the many who have changed their opinion about McGregor is former UFC welterweight (up to 77 kg) and middleweight (up to 83,9 kg) champion Georges St-Pierre.

In an interview with the North American website MMAFighting.com, the Canadian said that Conor McGregor should not do the quadrilogy against Dustin poirier as soon as he returns from injury. GSP believes that the Irishman should look for an opponent with a different style to have a better chance of winning.

“If he comes back...if I'm his manager, I wouldn't want my client to fight the same guy again for the fourth time. Because now it looks like Dustin has found his way. Maybe he needs to take another fight. I think he should go back and maybe face Nate diaz or some other fighter who has a different style of Dustin poirier. Styles make fights and I have the feeling that Poirier has the way to beat him now”, analyzed Georges St-Pierre.

GSP stated that the little recent activity of Conor McGregor may have contributed to his drop in performance in the Octagon. The Irishman had just four fights in the UFC in a period of almost five years, between November 2016 and July 2021.

“Conor was out for a long time. He needs to get back out there and spend more time in the octagon to find himself, the way he moves and his skill. It looks like he lost some of his ability due to inactivity,” explained GSP.

Conor McGregor is recovering from the serious injury suffered in the third fight against Dustin poirier, in July this year. The Irishman stated that he is ahead of schedule for his recovery and should return in mid-2022.
