Current fifth place in the Ultimate heavyweight rankings, the Dutchman alistair overeem he should fight again in August. The former champion of the extinct Strikeforce is scheduled to fight at UFC 164. His opponent, however, has not yet been chosen.
The return of “The Reem”, as he is known, comes about six months after his defeat to Brazilian Antônio “Pezão” Silva, at UFC 156 – in February. On that occasion, the Dutch giant suffered an inescapable knockout in the third round after an apparent dominance in the opening ten minutes of the fight. Overeem would face Junior Gypsy in edition 160 of Ultimate, but the results of an anti-doping test with high testosterone levels postponed his return to the octagon.
alistair overeem, 32 years old, has been fighting professionally since 1999. The Dutch-born Englishman has a record of 36 wins, 12 losses and one fight without result. Overeem is just one of two athletes to win titles in MMA and kickboxing – the other is Croatian Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović.
